Location: Division of Marine Research, Hobart Manufacturer: HobiLabs Inc. www.hobilabs.com In-water spectral backscattering and fluorescence sensor. Measures backscattering coefficient in six wavelengths (442, 488, 532, 589, 620 and 671 nm) and fluorescence at 510 and 671 nm. Instrument is equipped with depth sensor, internal batteries, clock and datalogger. Weight of the instrument with lowering frame is about 20 kg, but it can be lowered by hand from boat. Internal batteries are sufficient for a day of intensive data collection and can be recharged during 3 hours. It is possible to operate with the instrument through a computer, but the cable is short. Normal measurements are carried out with internal datalogging. Instrument can be switched on and off using magnetic switch. Each on/off cycle is saved as separate file. Communication with the instrument is organised through CrossCurt program (DOS based, terrible in use). Online communication with the instrument using Hydroscat (Win 95 based) program is possible when using short data communication cable. Hydroscat is calibrated by manufacturer. DMR owns Hydroscat calibration facility (Plexiglas aquarium with changeable depth bottom).
