Summary Report of Overseas Visit

Introduction

This report is a summary of the activities undertaken during an overseas visit in April 1997. The purpose of the trip was to:

(a) attend the CEOS WGISS meeting in Toulouse;

(b) attend a "Vegetation Instrument" meeting at Ispra; and

(c) visit colleagues at JRC CEO, Ispra , with whom we have collaborative and common interests in a number of areas (TREES and FIRE projects)

 

I am a member of the Access Subgroup of WGISS and as such have been involved with three task teams for more than a year, namely the IDN, CINTEX and WWW teams. This involvement is an integral part of Task 5 activities and underpins the installation of both the IMS Server and IDN Server at the EOC in Canberra. This involvement includes participation in regular teleconferences and attendance at some of the scheduled meetings.

The trip was funded from the EOC travel fund and the EOC Task 5 budget. Much of the detailed information (including agenda and minutes of meetings) is available on the web, and in these cases the relevant links have been included. The agenda is contained in Appendix A. The Appendices B, C and D give some background to the Access Subgroup and the tasks that are most relevant to this report.
